Understanding Amazon FBA Fees

Referral Fees

Amazon charges a percentage of each sale based on product category. Most categories are 15%, but some like electronics (8%) and jewelry (20%) vary. There's also a minimum fee of $0.30 per item.

FBA Fulfillment Fees

These cover picking, packing, shipping, and customer service. Fees are based on size tier (small standard, large standard, small oversize, etc.) and weight. Lighter, smaller items have lower fees.

Storage Fees

Monthly storage fees are calculated per cubic foot. Standard-size items cost $0.87/cu ft (Jan-Sep) or $2.40/cu ft (Oct-Dec peak season). Oversize items have lower rates.

Size Tiers Explained

Small Standard: ≤15" × 12" × 0.75", ≤16 oz
Large Standard: ≤18" × 14" × 8", ≤20 lb
Small Oversize: ≤60" × 30", ≤70 lb
Large Oversize: Anything bigger

Tips to Maximize FBA Profits

Optimize Product Size

Design packaging to fit within small standard tier when possible. A product at 15.1" pays significantly more than one at 14.9".

Manage Inventory Wisely

Avoid long-term storage fees by maintaining 2-3 months of inventory. Use Amazon's Inventory Performance Index to optimize.

Target 30%+ Margins

After all fees, aim for at least 30% profit margin. This provides buffer for PPC advertising, returns, and unexpected costs.
