For length, weight, and volume, this converter uses a base-unit approach: every unit is defined by an exact factor relative to a reference unit (the meter, the kilogram, and the liter). Your value is first multiplied into the base unit and then divided out into the target unit, which keeps every pair of units consistent — converting miles to centimeters goes through meters the same way as feet to kilometers. Why is temperature converted with a formula instead of a factor?
