How This Signature Maker Works

Everything you draw, type, or upload is rendered onto an HTML5 canvas element inside your browser. When you draw, the tool tracks your pointer or touch coordinates and interpolates smooth curves between them, varying line thickness with speed so the stroke looks like real ink rather than a stiff line. When you type, your name is painted using a chosen cursive web font and rasterized to the same canvas. In every mode the final image is exported straight from that canvas to a PNG file with canvas.toDataURL, so no image data is ever sent to a server.

The background choice matters more than it looks. A transparent PNG leaves every pixel around the strokes empty, which lets the signature sit cleanly on top of a contract, a scanned page, or a coloured letterhead without a white box around it. A white background is safer when a document viewer does not handle transparency well, and a custom colour is handy for matching a branded template. Because PNG is lossless, thin pen strokes stay crisp at the edges instead of picking up the blurry halos that a JPEG would introduce.

One honest limitation is worth stating: this produces a visual signature image, not a cryptographically verified electronic signature. It is ideal for dropping into a PDF, a Word file, an email footer, or an online form, but it does not carry the tamper-evident audit trail that regulated e-signature platforms attach for legally sensitive agreements. For everyday paperwork and internal documents that distinction rarely matters; for high-stakes legal contracts, pair the image with a dedicated e-signature service.
