Why we offer a manual paste mode
AI providers change their share page layouts frequently, and some block automated fetching entirely. Paste mode is a safety net: if auto-fetch breaks for a provider, you can still copy your chat directly from the UI and paste it here. The built-in parser recognizes common formats like You: ... ChatGPT: ... and **Human:** ... **Assistant:** .... Paste mode works entirely from text you provide, so it covers chats from your own account on any provider we don't auto-support. Note that pasted text is sent to our server for parsing and returned to your browser; it is processed in memory and never stored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do share links expire?
Most providers keep share links active indefinitely, but the chat owner can revoke a link at any time. If you get an error, the link may have been revoked or the conversation made private.
Is my chat stored on Fix42?
No. We fetch the share URL, parse it in memory, and return the messages to your browser. Nothing is written to our database unless you explicitly click the Share button to create a fix42.com/s/ link.
Which providers are supported?
Auto-fetch works for ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok share URLs. For any other provider (Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Poe, etc.), use the Paste Text tab: the parser handles most common chat transcript formats.
Can I extract private conversations?
No. The URL must be a public share link that anyone with the link can open. We don't bypass authentication or access anything the chat owner hasn't explicitly made public.
Why does Claude take longer than ChatGPT?
Claude share pages are rendered with JavaScript, so they need to load in a full browser session before the conversation appears, which typically adds 5-10 seconds per fetch. ChatGPT and Grok return plain HTML, so they extract almost instantly.
What export format should I choose?
Markdown is best for blog posts, documentation, and GitHub. Plain text is great for email or plain notes. JSON is for feeding conversations into scripts, other AI tools, or databases.
