Why Convert Markdown to Word?
Markdown is perfect for writing, but many collaborators and clients expect Word documents. Converting lets you bridge both worlds: write in clean Markdown, share as a professional .docx file.
- Collaboration: Share with non-technical teammates using Word
- Edit-friendly: Recipients can make tracked changes in Word
- Universal: .docx opens in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, Pages
- Familiar format: Perfect for reports, proposals, and contracts

What Formatting Carries Over
The converter renders your Markdown to HTML and wraps it in a Word-compatible document, so the visual structure travels with it. Headings become styled Word headings, lists stay ordered or bulleted, tables keep their rows and columns, and code blocks retain a monospace font on a light background. Bold, italic, inline code, blockquotes, links, and horizontal rules all map to their Word equivalents.
You control three things before downloading. Document style switches the body typeface between a modern sans-serif, a classic serif, and a stripped-back minimal look. Font size scales the whole document from 10 to 16 points, and headings scale proportionally. Page margins offer narrow (0.5"), normal (1"), and wide (1.5") options. Enabling table of contents scans your H1-H3 headings and inserts a linked outline at the top of the document.
Math written in LaTeX is exported as MathML rather than the KaTeX styling used in the on-screen preview, because Word cannot load external stylesheets and fonts, but it does understand MathML and turns it into native, editable equations. Everything runs in your browser: your text is never uploaded to a server, so drafts of confidential reports and contracts stay on your device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Word file open in Microsoft Word and Google Docs?
Yes. The tool produces a Word-compatible document that opens natively in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer, and Apple Pages. You can then edit, add tracked changes, or export to PDF from within your word processor.
Which Markdown features are supported?
Headings (H1-H6), bold, italic, inline code, code blocks, ordered and unordered lists, tables, blockquotes, links, images, and horizontal rules are all converted. LaTeX math is supported and exported as MathML so Word can render it as an editable equation.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your Markdown never leaves your device, so it is safe to use for confidential proposals, reports, and contracts.
Can I add a table of contents?
Yes. Tick the "Include table of contents" option in the settings panel. The tool collects your H1, H2, and H3 headings and inserts a linked outline at the top of the document that jumps to each section.
How do I change the fonts and margins?
Use the Document Settings panel. Choose Modern, Classic, or Minimal for the typeface, drag the font-size slider between 10 and 16 points, and pick Normal, Narrow, or Wide margins. The live preview updates as you adjust each setting.
Why does the exported math look different from the preview?
The on-screen preview uses KaTeX, which relies on a stylesheet and web fonts that Word cannot load. For the export, equations are converted to MathML instead, a format Word understands and renders as native, editable equations.
